The 5 km challenge for 30 consecutive days
Take up the challenge to run 5 km a day for 30 days
The rest stroke (or easy run) is the foundation of any structured training program. Often neglected, it is nevertheless essential for progress.
What is it and why do it?
It's a race run at a very low effort (you must be able to speak easily).
- Active recovery : It accelerates the elimination of metabolic waste (lactic acid) accumulated during intense sessions.
- Aerobic base : It strengthens your basic cardiovascular and muscular capacity without overloading your body.
- Injury prevention : It reduces the physical and mental stress of overtraining.
đWhat Frequency in your Plan?
The majority of your kilometers should be «easy». This is the famous 80/20 rule :
- 80 % of your total volume must be on a rest stroke.
- 20 % is reserved for fast, intense efforts (intervals, tempo).
Integration :
- Rest runs must always follow a difficult session (split or long intense outing).
- They serve as recovery bridge between your days of effort.
â ïž Beware the «In-Between Trap»: Never run your rest races too fast. If the effort is moderate (the grey zone), you won't recover and you won't progress. Slow down to speed up!
In a nutshell: Respect your rest period. It's the gentle training you do that allows your intense efforts to pay off.
